Visiting South Dakota? Don’t Miss the Stunning Dignity Statue

If you’re traveling across South Dakota on Interstate 90, plan to take a pit stop at the Chamberlain rest area.

The Dignity of Earth and Sky statue can be seen from the highway, but to fully appreciate this attraction you’ll want to get up close and personal.

2023 Travel Note: Be sure to check current traffic updates before your trip. There is an ongoing roadwork project in the area of this attraction.

Dignity of Earth and Sky

Dignity stands at an impressive fifty feet tall.

Her outstretched arms holding a magnificent star quilt of blue and white diamonds span over thirty feet wide.

Dignity is the 2016 creation of artist Dale Claude Lamphere.

The scale of the statue is impressive.

But the real beauty is in the movement of the quilt.

The diamonds in the quilt’s star pattern dance in the sunlight during the day.

At night, it’s worth pausing your travels for a few moments to sit as she begins light up at dusk.

Even if you pass through after dark, you’ll still be able to experience the Dignity Statue from a different lens.

Dignity’s location is perfect for adding a pit stop to your trip to the Sturgis rally or the Black Hills area.
